Avril Lavigne Steals Music

Avril Lavigne is being sued by The Rubinoos who claim her song "Girlfriend" was stolen from their song "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend." The record company may end up settling the suit anyways, since it might cost them even more to successfully defend. Although this isn’t the first time Avril has been accused of stealing. Last month, singer Chantal Kreviazuk accused Avril of stealing a song title. Additionally, the writer of "Sk8er Boi" says Lavigne shouldn’t be listed on the credits since all she did was "change a word here or there."

Now we have a video comparison of Rubinoos performing "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend" and Avril performing "Girlfriend." You decide if Avril ripped-off Rubinoos’ song. When I compared them the first word that came to my mind was GUILTY!

I didn’t expect this from a girl who used to be my favorite singer. There are other things about her new album, her marrige, and her new ways that piss me off…but this really makes me dislike her. I don’t want to believe it, but the two songs sound way too much the same for me not to. Being a songwriter myself who’s had lyrics stolen, this is the kind of thing that I hate most.

  3. Chelsie says:

Hey Hey You you.. so similar; and the tune is the same too. and then boyfriend/girlfriend..And then to say she never heard that song- is crap. Dumb on her part.. Not giving any credit..

  4. Raf says:

Common guys, you have to be blind to see that they have the same tempo and chorus, she obviously used this song to make the other one theres no doubt about that, she should get sued for this I would be pissed if she took my song and THE SAME LYRICS.

  5. Lisa says:

and just for the record whoever posted this thing you deff already hated avril….avril didn’t steal..the songs don’t even effin sound the same..the only part that sounds the same is hey hey you you..and may i remind you that avril isn’t the first person to be sued over this kinda thing..my dad told me the beatles have been sued as well..and they raked in as much cash as avril has…so for all these avril haters…THE BEATLES HAD CERTAIN PROBLEMS LIKE THIS..OTHER ARTISTS HAVE..SO STOP FREAKIN DISSING HER! GOD DAM* STUPID PEOPLE HERE…

  6. Lisa says:

uhh hey hey you you…that’s 4 freaking letters…why should someone be sued for that that’s effin dumb.

  7. Sarah says:

umm, hello people? it’s EXACTLY THE SAME chorus …

are you not hearing the “hey hey you you”?

you can’t take someone’s tempo and lyrics that are THAT close in comparison and not be called a theif.

avril is unoriginal and finally people are seeing what i’ve known for years.

  8. kelly says:

I don’t know. I mean, the tune is certainly there in both songs and the repetition of certain words makes a good case. But the meaning behind the songs are completely different.

Avrils unoriginal and talantless. What else is new?
