Oh, come on. If there had been a tiny strap behind her neck that suggested she was wearing a bathing suit or something, there would be no contreversy. She is, essentially, showing just as much skin as if she was on the beach. It is merely people’s perceptions of the picture that have created the scandal, not the picture itself.
Furthermore, Miley is not exactly in control of everything that occurs around her. She’s 15 years old and I’m sure that all throughout it she was being told “Oh, you look so beautiful! This is great!” What fifteen year old doesn’t want to hear that? It’s easy just to be caught up in the motion of the photo shoot and not consider its content until it’s slapped on the TV screen during E! News.

Ms. Leibovitz is the most arrogant photographer I have ever known and it is beyond words what she has done to this young girl. She knew exactly what she was doing and how to manipulate the situation to get exactly what she wanted for herself and the magazine, not Miley! In fact, Miley never entered her mind, it’s always about Leibovitz! The Great Leibovitz! A Legend in her own mind! Annie Leibovitz is a good photographer, for that there is no doubt, but she should also be attuned to her client’s wishes. I don’t totally fault Leibovitz for this error as I found out that Miley’s Parents weren’t there for that particular portion of the photo shoot, but then again, maybe that’s why Leibovitz did what she did! Shame on you Annie!

There was plenty of makeup on those lips and no reason to pose without clothing but to suggest a post-sexual activity moment. There is no mistaking the context of this photo. Those who deny it are fooling themselves. Miley needs to get her rebellion under control. She has been extraordinarily blessed and her behavior should reflect her sober recognition of that fact. Annie Leibovitz took advantage of Miley’s rebellion and used it to further her own name and agenda. It was an action that spit in the face of traditional American values. It was a middle finger salute to a “group” she perceives as disapproving of her very own lifestyle. Annie Leibovitz is not a teenager in her rebellious years and needs to grow up and take responsibility for her own “issues” and not make mistakes like this in the future.

“Sexually suggestive”, as you put it, is entirely in the eye of the beholder. You must be a very sheltered person. Are prom gowns “sexually suggestive?” Are one-piece bathing suits “sexually suggestive?” There’s more skin showing in both than there is in that picture. Why aren’t you on a beach vendetta? Or picketing high school dances?
