Dark Knight Sets Box Office Record

The Dark Knight Batman movie broke a new box office record making $155.34 million in its first weekend. The previous record was set by Spider-Man 3 in May of 2007 when it made $151.1 million.

Factoring in higher admission prices, however, "Spider-Man 3" may have sold slightly more tickets than "The Dark Knight."

At 2007’s average price of $6.88, "Spider-Man 3" sold 21.96 million tickets over opening weekend. Box office tracker Media By Numbers estimates today’s average movie prices at $7.08, which means "The Dark Knight" would have sold 21.94 million tickets.

"The Dark Knight," which cost $185 million to make, also broke the "Spider-Man 3" record for best debut in IMAX large-screen theaters with $6.2 million. "Spider-Man 3" opened with $4.7 million in IMAX cinemas.

Angelina Jolie Leaves Hospital with Newborn Twins

Angelina Jolie and her twins left the hospital early Saturday, a week since she gave birth to Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline via C-Section. Hospital rep Nadine Bauer confirmed:

"Angelina Jolie left the Clinic Santa Maria of Fondation Lenval early in the morning of July 19th. The mother and babies are doing very well."

There were only a few journalists camped outside the Fondation Lenval hospital in Nice, France, early Saturday morning, but even they didn’t know for sure when Jolie slipped out of the hospital with her twins at 4 a.m. local time.

Does this mean the world is losing interest in Jolie?

The Dark Knight Review

The Dark Knight Review

As I mentioned yesterday, I went to see The Dark Knight Batman movie last evening, and I also saw Hellboy 2.

The critics said, "Don’t see Batman once, see it twice." They were right. This was a really different, much more gritty, and realistic superhero movie. Batman’s weaknesses were exposed, making him appear more like a real man trying to do the right thing, but also fighting the temptation to do the wrong thing.

The story was well written, and focused mostly on character development. A lot of action was thrown in, along with such a compelling story line that there were no dull moments. In fact, it was impossible to take my eyes off the screen the entire time. No one even got up to use the bathroom.

Heath Ledger is said to be up for an award for his work in this movie. After seeing his performance, I was blown away. Heath totally became The Joker, and literally made the role his own. Heath was the most real character in the whole movie. It was as if he really became The Joker, which makes it even more heart breaking that an actor with his gift died so young.

Everyone’s acting in this movie was superb. Although I thought Maggie Gyllenhaal was a terrible choice as Batman’s love interest, there is a reason she was chosen for the role.

I’m not going to give you any spoilers, except to say, "SEE THIS MOVIE." If you don’t see it at the theater, then see it later, but see it. This is superhero history. Superhero movies are getting better, and taking themselves much more serious, and making some serious money. The movie cost over $180 million to make, but it’s sure to break many movie profit records.

Tickets to The Dark Knight this weekend were selling for up to $1,500 on Craigslist. One ticket seller asked, “What are tickets worth to you?” Don’t get ripped off. Buy the tickets at their regular cost. Use the money you save for other things that are more important, like eating.

I saw Hellboy a few years ago out of interest, and it was pretty good. Last night I watched Hellboy 2 - The Golden Army after Batman, and it was really good as well. Hellboy 2 included a market scene that reminded me a lot of Harry Potter. There was a mix of action, love story, martial art style fighting, science fiction, magic, and a really tight story, plus some comedy thrown in. Hellboy 2 was entertaining from beginning to end.

Lindsay Lohan Career Losing Steam

Nylon magazine says Lindsay Lohan is now the new face of Fornarina, an Italian clothing company. It’s not Miu Miu, but when you’re desperate for cash, and hate the thought of flipping burgers, you take what you can get.

Lohan partied with her gal pal Samantha Ronson, and her family the other night. One big happy family. The friends wore matching fedora’s. Aaaah.
